The Georgetown University Alumni and Student Federal Credit Union (GUASFCU) is a credit union that is based in Washington, DC and operates under the authority of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) of the US federal government. Since its establishment in 1983, GUASFCU has been dedicated to serving the Georgetown community and has grown to become the largest student-run credit union in the nation in terms of assets and membership.

Formally chartered by the National Credit Union Administration on February 9, 1983, the credit union was widely praised as a model for future student credit unions. The university administration granted permission for GUASFCU to open on the second floor of the O'Gara building, an unprecedented move that made Georgetown University the first private university to have an independent, student-run credit union. Initial funding was sourced from numerous students, who collectively pledged approximately $500,000 in deposits, as well as a $100,000 certificate of deposit provided by Georgetown University.

By 1985, GUASFCU's total assets had exceeded $1,000,000. In 1994, the credit union adopted its current name, Georgetown University Alumni & Student Federal Credit Union (GUASFCU), to better reflect its expanding alumni network. Today, GUASFCU is recognized as the largest student-run financial institution in the United States. In February 2008, GUASFCU celebrated its 25th anniversary. The credit union currently serves a diverse membership consisting of both students and alumni, with over 70 percent of the Georgetown community maintaining accounts with GUASFCU. The credit union's impressive financial standing includes over $15 million in assets and more than 11,000 accounts. Furthermore, it manages a loan portfolio totaling approximately $1.8 million, comprised of signature and auto loans.

As we move into the 21st century, GUASFCU remains committed to prioritizing the needs of its members. It continues to implement changes and introduce new programs to better serve both current students and alumni of Georgetown University. With a goal of becoming your long-term financial institution beyond graduation, GUASFCU was founded on the vision of a small group of forward-thinking students and has since evolved into an institution that provides affordable and diverse financial services to the Georgetown community.
